Make a Splash This Summer – Join the Capalaba Piranhas for 2026/27

The weather is warming up, the pool is ready, and the Capalaba Piranhas Amateur Swimming Club is preparing to dive into another season!

Our 2026/27 swimming season is about to begin, and if you have a child who enjoys being in the water, wants to become a stronger swimmer, make new friends or simply try something different this summer, now is a great time to join the Piranhas.

And don't worry — you don't need to already be a competitive swimmer.

Swimming Club Without the Pressure

One of the things that makes the Capalaba Piranhas a little different is that our club caters for both social and competitive swimmers aged 5 to 19.

Some swimmers join because they love racing. Others want to improve their swimming, build their confidence or spend an evening in the pool with friends.

For our younger and less experienced swimmers, races can begin at just 12.5 metres. As confidence and ability develop, swimmers can progress through 25m and 50m events and eventually take on 100m and 200m events, medleys and relays.

The focus isn't simply on who touches the wall first.

Throughout the season, swimmers can track their own times, work towards their own personal bests and see how much they have improved.

It's about having a go, improving and enjoying swimming.

Tuesday Nights Are Club Nights

During the swimming season, Tuesday night is Piranhas night!

Club racing begins at 6:30pm at the Capalaba State College Junior Campus pool, with swimmers able to nominate for the strokes and distances they feel comfortable attempting.

Events throughout the season include:

  • Freestyle

  • Backstroke

  • Breaststroke

  • Butterfly

  • Individual medley

  • Distance freestyle

Nobody needs to swim every event. Swimmers can build their confidence at their own pace and challenge themselves when they're ready.

For swimmers wanting to take things further, the club also provides additional training opportunities throughout the season.

More Than Just Swimming

Swimming club is also a great opportunity for children to be active and part of a local community.

They get to know other swimmers, celebrate each other's achievements and experience the excitement of improving their own times.

For parents, it's a relaxed community environment too.

Our club is run with the support of a fantastic group of parents, volunteers and committee members as a sub-committee of the Capalaba State College P&C Association.

And because Tuesday evenings can already be busy enough for families, our club canteen is open on club nights, with hot food, drinks and snacks available — making dinner one less thing to worry about!

"My Child Isn't a Strong Swimmer Yet…"

That's one of the most common concerns we hear.

The Capalaba Piranhas isn't a learn-to-swim school, so children do need to be able to swim a short distance independently.

But they certainly don't need perfect technique or years of squad training behind them.

In fact, some of the best moments at the club come from watching a swimmer who started nervously completing a short distance gradually build enough confidence to tackle a full lap, then 50 metres and eventually even longer events.

Every swimmer's journey is different.

We want children to become the swimmer they want to be.

A Great Summer Sport

Swimming is also perfectly suited to the Queensland summer.

Our club season runs through Terms 4 and 1, giving kids an active outdoor sport during the warmer months without necessarily requiring the year-round commitment associated with some other sports.

Whether your child wants to:

🏊 improve their swimming⏱️ chase a new personal best🏅 experience competitive swimming🙌 build confidence👫 meet new friends☀️ or simply have fun in the pool

…there's a place for them at the Capalaba Piranhas.

2026/27 Membership

New swimmer membership for the 2026/27 season is:

Come and Join the Piranhas!

With the new season getting underway, we'd love to welcome some new faces to the pool.

If you've driven past the pool, heard about the Piranhas through school, have a child asking to do more swimming, or have simply wondered whether swimming club might be right for your family — give it a go.

You might be surprised how quickly a nervous first swim turns into someone asking:

"Did I beat my time?"

That's what club swimming is all about.
